Materials Semantics in Design Applications | ANARCHITECT®’s Founding Principal Jonathan Ashmore participates in a Talk organized by Iris Ceramica Group Italy and UAE Modern, with THE PLAN Italy as the Media partner. As part of an international Contest “Local Cultures in Global Settings” set to foster knowledge of a multitude of unique roots and identities, the initiative focuses on Dubai as a symbolic place of global discourse.
The choice to host the event at Canadian University Dubai aims at emphasizing the role of higher education in forging a new generation of designers able to address global emerging issues, and at creating knowledge loops among students, practitioners and the industry.
The Talk panelists will discuss the evolution of the material culture and the role of circular economy and sustainability in the development of new design approaches. Running parallel to the talk, students from the Canadian University Dubai and De Montfort University will participate in a hands-on workshop. Drawing inspiration from the works of Burle Marx, students will explore the relationship between colour, form, and material, using local sand and soils to create digital patterns that will serve as resources for the contest.

The National UAE’s LUXURY shares ANARCHITECT® ‘s insights on what will luxury be in a post-coronavirus world. “This will affect human culture. It’ll change human habits,” says Jonathan Ashmore, founder of Anarchitect, a design and architecture practice with branches in Dubai and London. “It’s more about human distribution in space,” says Ashmore. “Not so much isolation and segregation, but how do you harness space? How do you create a sense of intimacy, but also security?
“Luxury can compensate for these new parameters, because it can work with high-quality materials and beautiful lighting; it can look at the composition of space. The most luxurious spaces will be the ones that respond in the most holistic way, where it isn’t overt or obvious,” he continues.

Awards | In our most successful participation in the coveted Middle-East CID Awards to date, we are excited to share ANARCHITECT won the Award for the Best Outdoor Design of the Year for the El Chiringuito Ibiza.Dubai project. The architects were recognised for their unique design approach to create a diverse and dynamic project that is neither a building, nor a landscape while translating our architectural design approach to all disciplines of architecture, interior architecture and design.
El Chiringuito was also Highly Commended in the Best Bar and Club Design category for overcoming a design challenge to create a heightened social experience for the guests and staff, both as a restaurant space during the day and the beach club venue at night on the weekends.
ANARCHITECT also won the Award for the Best Retail Design for our Rossano Ferretti Hair Spa in Jumeirah, Dubai, making us a double winner this year. The architects were recognised for their “elegant, brave and above all different design approach” on the project, for acknowledging the original building’s residential past and using its intimate spatial layout to curate a sequence of spaces.

British Council Cultural Excellence Fellowship | ANARCHITECT Founder & Director Jonathan Ashmore is honoured as a Pioneer-Mentor at the Majlis of H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahyan following the completion of the two years Cultural Excellence Fellowship training program.
The two-year initiative was launched in 2014 by the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF) and the British Council in association with Mubadala. Materials Semantics in Design Applications | ANARCHITECT®’s Founding Principal Jonathan Ashmore participates in a Talk organized by Iris Ceramica Group Italy and UAE Modern, with THE PLAN Italy as the Media partner. As part of an international Contest “Local Cultures in Global Settings” set to foster knowledge of a multitude of unique roots and identities, the initiative focuses on Dubai as a symbolic place of global discourse.
The choice to host the event at Canadian University Dubai aims at emphasizing the role of higher education in forging a new generation of designers able to address global emerging issues, and at creating knowledge loops among students, practitioners and the industry.
The Talk panelists will discuss the evolution of the material culture and the role of circular economy and sustainability in the development of new design approaches. Running parallel to the talk, students from the Canadian University Dubai and De Montfort University will participate in a hands-on workshop. Drawing inspiration from the works of Burle Marx, students will explore the relationship between colour, form, and material, using local sand and soils to create digital patterns that will serve as resources for the contest.

The National UAE’s LUXURY shares ANARCHITECT® ‘s insights on what will luxury be in a post-coronavirus world. “This will affect human culture. It’ll change human habits,” says Jonathan Ashmore, founder of Anarchitect, a design and architecture practice with branches in Dubai and London. “It’s more about human distribution in space,” says Ashmore. “Not so much isolation and segregation, but how do you harness space? How do you create a sense of intimacy, but also security?
“Luxury can compensate for these new parameters, because it can work with high-quality materials and beautiful lighting; it can look at the composition of space. The most luxurious spaces will be the ones that respond in the most holistic way, where it isn’t overt or obvious,” he continues.

Awards | In our most successful participation in the coveted Middle-East CID Awards to date, we are excited to share ANARCHITECT won the Award for the Best Outdoor Design of the Year for the El Chiringuito Ibiza.Dubai project. The architects were recognised for their unique design approach to create a diverse and dynamic project that is neither a building, nor a landscape while translating our architectural design approach to all disciplines of architecture, interior architecture and design.
El Chiringuito was also Highly Commended in the Best Bar and Club Design category for overcoming a design challenge to create a heightened social experience for the guests and staff, both as a restaurant space during the day and the beach club venue at night on the weekends.
ANARCHITECT also won the Award for the Best Retail Design for our Rossano Ferretti Hair Spa in Jumeirah, Dubai, making us a double winner this year. The architects were recognised for their “elegant, brave and above all different design approach” on the project, for acknowledging the original building’s residential past and using its intimate spatial layout to curate a sequence of spaces.
We were humbled and happy to celebrate with many of our fellow design professionals, in the cheery night of the Middle-East CID Awards 2017.

RCA Secret Dubai is an exhibition and sale of original postcard-sized artworks by regional and internationally acclaimed artists and designers, plus up-and-coming graduates from the Royal College of Art. Taking place at Art Dubai, it’s a chance to get your hands on original works of art for a small price, while supporting students at a formative time in their careers. Each postcard in RCA Secret Dubai is signed only on the back, so collectors don’t know the identity of the artists until they have made their purchases.

British Council Cultural Excellence Fellowship | ANARCHITECT Founder & Director Jonathan Ashmore is honoured as a Pioneer-Mentor at the Majlis of H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahyan following the completion of the two years Cultural Excellence Fellowship training program.
The two-year initiative was launched in 2014 by the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF) and the British Council in association with Mubadala. The Cultural Excellence Fellowship (CEF) sought to inspire and equip Emirati citizens mentored by selected creative professionals, with the skills and knowledge to pursue creative entrepreneurship and careers in the cultural industries
