Set within the traditional desert farmlands in the UAE on the borders of the Emirate of Sharjah and a one-hour drive from the nearest urban metropolis, the new Private Farmhouse Retreat is sited on the footprint of an existing and dilapidated temporary structure within a 2.4 hectare private farm.

Conceived with a minimal-contemporary design approach, the Farmhouse is intended to offer weekend escapism and a retreat for multiple generations of a private family whom have a long-standing relationship with the area and a love for nature and the UAE’s great outdoors.

The property is a working farm with a date palm plantation, orchard of plants for growing food produce and established out-buildings that house goats and chickens for milk and eggs.

The architecture and design of the Farmhouse Retreat by Dubai and London-based practice ANARCHITECT are paramount to the contextual experience it provides. At its heart, a double-height inner-courtyard draws in natural light conditions throughout the day with the opportunity to open at high-level to encourage natural air flow from the prevailing winds.
